For the better part of the last decade, Bria Salmena has been dodging musical pigeonholes like they’re going out of fashion. Known initially for leading the critically-acclaimed Canadian experimental post-punk outfit FRIGS, Salmena has since been globe-trotting as an indispensable member of Orville Peck’s live band. In her downtime, she and her partner-in-crime Duncan Hay Jennings have given Americana classics a goth-dream-pop twist with the cheekily named ‘Cuntry Covers’. Now, blending brooding rock with introspective songwriting, Salmena’s solo work is an intoxicating cocktail of goth, shoegaze, and krautrock, making her a genre-bending enigma you can’t help but love.
