FlorencE + The Machine
Dancing Barefoot revisited. Ruim twintig jaar nadat punkpoëet Patty Smith blootvoets danste op het Paradiso-podium, vindt ze een volgelinge in de roodharige ‘sirene’ Florence Welch. Een vergelijkbaar talent, aangelengd met een Kate Bush-achtig gevoel voor drama, melodie en decorum. Zo toont de nieuwe, nog ongekroonde ‘queen’ zich aan de indie-parochie in Paradiso op 25 april 2008. Ze verbaast zich oprecht over het applaus dat ze krijgt: ‘You’re very polite, you’re clapping.’ De toekomst zal nummer 1-albums, een Brit Award en het hoofdpodium van Glastonbury brengen, maar het London Calling-publiek herkent de toekomstige ster al een jaar voordat het serieus loos gaat.
